Obituary of Adah Holmes Doty

Adah Doty died peacefully in her sleep in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was born in Upper Montclair, New Jersey to Arthur and Zillah (nee Vezin) Holmes. After graduating high school, she moved to Coral Gables, Florida, living for a time with her grandfather, artist Charles Vezin. During WWII she worked on the Red Cross Mobile Canteen that served the Naval Air Gunnery School. She had many happy memories of her friends and activities during this time.

After WWII, she worked for a while in New York City, then Chicago. Finally, she ventured out to San Francisco, where she met and married Willard Gibson (m. 1959-1979). Adah was blessed to have married two great men, the second of which was Archibald C. Doty (m. 1998-2021). She opened her heart to loving all of their children.

Adah knew how to create a beautiful life and a beautiful, gracious home. Her family remember her as a consummate hostess and excellent cook. She had an ability to make and keep friends wherever she went. She was a skilled seamstress and taught sewing at Stretch N Sew. She loved to travel and after retiring from Tektronix, she and Arch took many memorable trips around the world. She gave thousands of hours to charity work, and gallons of blood to the Red Cross. She was a devoted fan of symphony and theater. She loved dogs, any dog, and she and Arch raised two Golden Retrievers and rescued another.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole Gibson, step-children Ann Doty, David (& Cindy) Doty, and Sue Ross, as well as numerous grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Arch Doty; daughter, Mary; and sister, Blanche Garrison.
