Obituary of Jean M. Jeschke

Born April 23, 1926, in Warren, PA, to Walter and Grace (Downey) McKown, Jean M. Jeschke died April 6, 2023, at 4138 Market Street NE, Salem, Oregon.

A 1944 graduate of Warren High School, she joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and received her R.N. in 1948 from the University of Rochester School of Nursing.

Jean married Arnold Jeschke in Warren, PA, in 1948.

She spent the next 36 years working in various capacities as a nurse, with the last 22 years as a school nurse at the Junior/Senior High School in Titusville, PA.  In 1971, Jean earned her B.S. in Public Health from the University of Edinboro in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Retiring in 1984, she and Arnold moved to and loved the area west of Monmouth, Oregon.

Jean joined and enjoyed many organizations. In 1988, she became a member of the Monmouth Garden Club, twice as president (1993 and 2000), and as an Associate Member in 2015; an active participant and supporter of the Monmouth Senior Center; and a docent at the Jensen Arctic Museum on the Western Oregon University campus.  Jean retired in 2016 after 30 years as a volunteer with the Monmouth Public Library. She also served as a board member of the Friends of the Monmouth Library. Jean loved attending every Fall Fling Gardening Festival by the OSU Extension Polk County Master Gardeners. Her dear friends in the Homemaker’s Hobby Club and Bridge Club brought her many years of joy. Jean also kept in close contact with many loving family members around the U.S. and Canada.

Jean will be remembered and greatly missed by son David Walter Jeschke (Donna Jo Cate), daughter Penelope Repko (Tom), granddaughter Elizabeth Gienger (Ian), and great-grandson Andrew.

She is survived by her sister Jane Speicher (Melvin) of Casa Grande, AZ, and brother Walter McKown (Mary Jane) of Mesa, AZ. Her husband Arnold preceded her in death on September 18, 2021, in Salem, Oregon.

Jean wished to be buried in the Tidioute cemetery beside her parents, young sister Maxine, and baby brother Dennis.

There will be no funeral services.
