Obituary of Michael Malone

Michael ‘Mike’ David Malone, age 69, of Newberg Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Mike was born on May 29, 1954 to Gladys and Albert in Oakland, CA. Mike was a 1972 graduate of Newberg High School, where he met the love of his life, Cheryl Rogers. Mike and Cheryl married in November 1972 and resided in Newberg, where they raised their family. He was employed by the City of Newberg for 34 years and served as a volunteer firefighter, where he earned the name ‘Gator’ by rescuing a pet alligator from a house fire.

Mike had a deep love for both his family and his Creator. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in December 1972 and regularly shared his faith with others. His early interests included dirt bike riding, running and powerlifting. Some of his favorite activities were spending time at the Oregon Coast and spoiling his grandchildren. Mike was known for his selflessness and willingness to help others, and his intense love for his wife, family and close friends.

Mike was predeceased by his father Albert Malone, mother Gladys Walkemeyer, step-father Daryl Walkemeyer, brother Dave Malone, and son-in-law, Randy Wilcox.

Mike is survived by his wife Cheryl, his five daughters and their husbands, Jamie and Chris Rhodes, Katie and Aaron Lothrop, Sarah and Grady McKenzie, Rachel and Darren Watson, and Ashley Wilcox, his six grandchildren Alexis, Benni, Hollis, Tucker, Carson and Clover and his siblings Michelle Bladine, Denise Mayfield, Lori Walkemeyer, Terrie Pryne, Christine Mox and Karl Walkemeyer.

A memorial service will be held at the Newberg High School Performing Arts Auditorium on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 1:30 pm.
