Obituary of Rebecca Choruby
Becky Choruby, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, sadly left this world on September 8th, 2023.
Becky was a deeply wise, compassionate, insightful and empathetic person. She was born on December 8th, 1954 to her parents, Doris and Paul Schulze in Seattle, Washington. While she primarily spent her childhood in Portland, OR, She graduated from Berkley High School in 1972 in Berkley, CA and spoke of her time in California as time that helped her to develop her compassion for others.
In her younger years, Becky was known for being an adventurous and spontaneous person. She would light up whenever talking about her years downhill skiing with her best friend, Debbie. Becky continued to be known for her spontaneity and would light up whenever she came up with an idea for a new adventure and would playfully nudge those around her to be spontaneous with her, even if it was something small such as getting ice cream in the middle of the day.
Becky met Larry in Portland, Oregon and married him a few years later. Larry still speaks about how beautiful she looked on their wedding day. Together they had one daughter, Amber Michelle Choruby. Becky was a devoted mother who was known for her love for all children and her own child-like spirit. She gave hugs freely, made jokes, laughed, and encouraged everyone to be their most authentic selves.
Becky had a deep curiosity and zest for knowledge and understanding that led her to work as a librarian. Even when Becky wasn’t working for the library, she was known for checking out so many books, DVDs and audiobooks that at one time the local library had to create a shelf just for for her. When she wasn’t consuming materials from the library, Becky loved to engage in deep and meaningful conversations with those close to her.
Becky held deep values and beliefs about the world, including her belief that everyone should be kind and considerate to one another. Her friends describe her as someone who was always there to support and listen. She had a deep intuitive wisdom and was known for her ability to sit with and support people through hard times in their life. Her empathy and caring for others was deep and unending.
She also held strong beliefs about the need to “spoil” her grandchildren and would spend time researching new, fun and innovative toys and crafts to share with them. She left behind many loved ones, including her Husband Larry; daughter Amber; her brothers Matt and Peter; and grandchildren Madison and Jude. To say that she will be missed by those who knew her would be an understatement.
A celebration of her life will be held on 9/30 at 1:00pm at the Sherwood, Oregon Spaghetti factory. All those who knew and loved her are welcome to join her family in sharing a meal while sharing stories about her. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oregon Humane Society can be made in Becky’s name.
