Obituary of Eloise W Hanable
Eloise Wasson Hanable, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2023 - at the age of 85 in Sherwood, Oregon. Her daughter Amy was by her side - holding hands and reminiscing on memories that have been created & a life well lived. Eloise was born on June 12, 1938, in Indianola, Mississippi. Eloise attended Leland High School in Leland, Mississippi – Class of 1956 where she graduated with her twin sister Delores Wasson.
She was a cherished and proud wife to Bill of 44 years and a loving mother to Amy. Eloise had a warm and welcoming personality, making friends wherever she went. She had a witty perspective on life and always wore a smile and had warm beautiful eyes. Many close friends knew Eloise to always be at her best and well put together, every day was a day for lipstick.
Eloise spent her childhood in Leland and Greenville Mississippi and after marrying Bill – they relocated to Anchorage, Alaska. In Anchorage, she and Bill raised Amy and resided for 29 years; enjoying the beautiful outdoors (fishing in particular), bountiful vegetable gardens, cheering on her favorite tennis player or football team, cherished friendships and spending weekends in their family log cabin at Ida Lake.
While in Anchorage, Eloise worked at the First National Bank of Anchorage for 25 years – where she was known fondly as “The Queen.” Eloise was a dedicated and loyal Branch Secretary and touched so many during her time.
Eloise had a special fondness for dogs of all sizes and purposefully stopped to share a treat or head scratch. She enjoyed taking her furry companions for rides, walks in the park, and sharing the love of sweet treats with them. In addition to her love for animals, Eloise knew the names of most flowers and carried-on the love of planting from her mother Jewel. She loved her puzzles and bingo, most recently sharing those moments with her close friends and family.
Eloise is survived by her son-in-law, Ben R Balzer, and daughter, Amy S Balzer. She adored her two grandsons, William Brodie and Ty Benjamin, and her face would light up with joy whenever they visited and greeted her with a cheerful "Hi Nana." She was so very proud of both grandsons; both boys having calm and tender hearts. Brodie is creative and a talented dancer, Ty being her sports and fishing partner. She also admired how tall both boys were getting. Eloise also leaves behind many friends and extended family who loved her dearly.
Eloise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William S Hanable, her twin sister, Delores W Williams, and her brothers, Dennis C Wasson and Charles D Wasson. She held them close to her heart and will be reunited with them in eternal peace.
Eloise's warm presence and genuine love for others will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, forever remembered for her kind heart, joyful spirit and humble nature.
The family will have a private service, followed with a Celebration of Life for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sherwood Historical Society, the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center or a Pet Society of your choice. These organizations were close to her heart, and she spent time volunteering while in Sherwood.
